President of Shell Oil visiting Campus!

The President of Shell Oil Company (John Hofmeister) is coming to UD this Weds, May 7 as part of the Global Agenda series.

Gasoline prices.
The price of oil topping $120.
Oil company profits dramatically up.
Nigeria (and Shell’s treatment of African workers).
And, of course, the whole climate change/carbon emissions set of issues.

Just about anything anyone could imagine to appeal to students who have a chance to ask questions of the president of an oil company.

These issues should appeal to an incredibly broad swath of students and faculty, from engineers and chemists to Business majors.

Extra Credit and Revised Course Schedule

Hi Everyone:

4 Student presentations have been selected for the extra credit exercise. The 4 presentations are as follows: a) Team Appleseeds: MacBook, b) Team GPS: GPS, c) Team Bluetooth: 3 Marketeers, and d) Team: ALLi. To get your extra credit, this is what you will have to do.

a) Attend the student presentation and learn about the product and the way in which marketing research was used with regard to this product.
b) Write a 1-page single-spaced (1 inch margin on all sides, 12 size font, Times New Roman) synopsis of this presentation and the articles that were included in this presentation. The synopsis should include a section about how the articles in this presentation relate to the material in the text (you can compare and contrast the articles with material from any chapter in the textbook).
c) There will be 4 such extra credits and each one of them with be worth half a point (4 ECs = 2 points). These two points will be an extra help when you are a couple of points away from from the next highest letter grade. Even half a point will help. For instance if your final grade is 89.4, it will be rounded off to 89 which is a B+. Doing at least one extra credit will get you over the fence to a 90 which is a A-.
d) The first extra credit is due on Apr. 7 by 11.59 pm EST via email to anusiva@udel.edu. The due dates of the other Extra credits are April 16th by 11.59 pm EST, April 23rd, 11.59 EST and May 5, 11.59 EST.
e) if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Some changes have been made to the course schedule to reflect where we stand in class now. the changes have been highlighted in blue. Please go through the revised course schedule in detail because the due date for the Research Proposal has now been changed.

We are in the market for a part-time student to work in our office on Monday and Friday mornings/early afternoon (approx. 9-2) for the spring semester and some summer hours as well. The job involves customer service and computer work with Microsoft products and databases. It is located at the Delaware Tech Park. If anyone is interested please forward your resume to me. Internship Opportunities

JPMorgan Chase representatives will be on University of Delaware's campus on February 13th to speak about business internships.

pecifically, they will be speaking about our Operations and Management Services (OMS) Summer Analyst Program and the Summer Analyst Program in Finance, for both of which they have on-campus interviews scheduled. Both of these internship programs are geared toward current juniors, as well as some sophomores, because of the great position the internships put you in to receive a full-time offer with JPMorgan Chase in Delaware.

The program starts at 6:00 pm in the Kirkland Room, Perkins Student Center, and there will be a networking reception after the short presentations. Please also note that refreshments will be served.

Legislative Fellows Program (link)

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Legislative Fellows Program! The program is open to the University's full-time graduate students and senior-level undergraduate students.
The Legislative Fellows Program provides students with an opportunity to observe and contribute to the political decision-making process. The program links the research capacity of the University of Delaware with the research needs of the Delaware General Assembly. Through their non-partisan, in-depth research, Fellows assist legislators in dealing with complex public policy issues facing the state. Since its inception, nearly 200 individuals have participated in the program.
Fellows are selected through a competitive process and work in Dover for 20 hours per week during the entire legislative session (January 2 - June 30, 2009). They receive a stipend comparable to that of a graduate research assistantship, earn about $19/hour, and travel to Dover in University vehicles. Fellows also participate in the graduate seminar State Government Management and Policy (UAPP/POSC 687).
Students interested in politics, public policy, economics, planning, land use, geography, business, energy/environmental issues, public administration, political science, economic development, leadership studies, sociology, history, education or family/community services may find this experience particularly relevant for their long-range professional goals.
Information sessions describing the Legislative Fellows Program will be held in 185 Graham Hall on March 12 from 11-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2 p.m. Interested students may RSVP to Shelley Cook at Shelley@udel.edu. The deadline for submitting applications is April 9, 2008.
